Summary Event - Fun with Physical Computing
Event Date: TBC (a Saturday in September)
Event Time: 10:00 to 17:00
Venue: The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (Tentatively)
Quota: 15
Fee: HK$xxx/person
Programme highlight:
Students will spend time with programming the Arduino microcontroller platform to work with sensors and actuators. The course structure simulates the exploratory learning process, through tinkering / circuit bending students get to dive head first into making things do works and learn the "why" along the way.
At the completion of this project, students will know how to write programs that interact with the physical environment, gain first-hand experience about the non-deterministic nature of physical computing and ways to get around them. LEDs, microswitches, sonar and sound player will be used to build a simple toy and students bring home the whole kit so they can further the experiment.
Furthermore, students will now use the Arduino platform to control motors and make an obstacle-evading robot car. Development will center around developing an awareness of the surroundings to pave the way to the closed-loop robotics design principle. Students will bring home the whole kit.
Any one would like to join the Facebook Application Workshop should register by 10 August 2009.
